Profile
Yumiko describes her works as Stitch Drawings.
Having realized stitching is the best medium to express her art forms after she tried various mediums inquisitively, Yumiko has developed her original drawing style using a sewing machine and surface manipulation. Her current investigation is to create human forms, especially faces, with tonal value using threads; therefore, she uses various thicknesses of black, grey, cream and white threads on painted brown paper. Her favourite subject matters are “Mother and Child “and “Women.”
After the completion of a City & Guilds course in Embroidery, Yumiko has concentrated on drawings and paintings for six years. However, her passion towards texture led her take the course of the Diploma in H.E. stitched textiles in 2004. Yumiko admires works by Alice Kettle and Audrey Walker.
