Profile
Sue has always enjoyed textiles. From a very early age she has sewn, designing and constructing her own clothes as a teenager. Creative activities took a back seat while raising a family and earning a living in a senior management position in the Chemical Industry. Redundancy in 2002 released her to be creative again and she has had, she says, a whale of a time ever since!
Her work is mainly in textiles with some mixed media with a variety of threads using machine and hand stitching also an embellisher. She also enjoys photography and printmaking. Sue prefers to work with natural fibres, dyeing her fabric and thread to achieve the desired effect. Layered surfaces, built up paper on billboards, flaking paint and rust all give her inspiration. She investigates what went before, what is hidden and what revealed. More recently, since moving to the countryside, her local environment has also inspired some landscapes and nature studies.
Sue teaches locally at Young Embroiderers (Young Textile Artists, Basingstoke), gives workshops and lectures.
