shireen brickell LSDC

Profile

Shireen lives and works in Dorset, so she is much inspired and influenced by country life, the characters and wildlife are much in evidence in her work. She has always been passionate about art in all its forms coming to textile art quite late in life...  Drawing has always featured very strongly in everything she does, capturing a moment that is interesting, amusing or sad is a real passion and because of that her images in textiles are always informed by her drawing.

For the final years exhibition she spent long hours drawing at a Poultry Auction in the heart of Dorset.  This enabled her to capture the amazing characters and animals that she found absolutely fascinating and to interpret them in paint stitch and fabric.

She has now started using her diaries, which are part sketch book, and which accompany her where ever she travels.  Some of the latest pieces are taken from visits to Rwanda, drawing and recording life as she travelled.
