Profile
Jane’s inspiration comes from her interest in textiles and the messages that they convey through their construction, pattern and colour. She uses textiles to create a visual response about social culture and the world around us. Sketch books and colour experiments are part of her working process and enables her to explore collage in small pieces as well as 3D installations. Two recent projects used contrasting textures to express the hidden content of classical books and the social history of the damask pattern. Her collage work continues in researching textile patterns as well as print on paper.
Jane’s background is in interior design and soft furnishings having worked as a designer as well as teaching the City & Guilds qualifications for ten years. After gaining a Diploma in History of Art from Oxford University, she entered the world of textile art and recently completed the Diploma in Stitched Textiles with distinction at East Berkshire College in Windsor.
As a result of Jane’s teaching experience, she enjoys sharing her design development and is more than willing to give a talk or workshop.
