Profile
Having spent much of her working life as a Management Consultant Elizabeth is now concentrating on working and developing as a textile artist.
Her passion is landscape and inspiration comes from walking in the countryside, watching the play of light and shadow through the trees; observing the light at different times of day, season, and weather; enjoying the sounds and scents. Elizabeth’s aim is to distil that rich experience to its simplest elements of light, shade, line, and colour; using textiles to evoke a sense of place and the feeling of being there. Her pieces also represent an inner landscape, an emotional response to the natural world.
Images are built up on silk organza and silk habutai, using a range of techniques including hand dying, batik wax and Shibori. The resulting fabrics are layered, appliquéd, quilted and stitched to give the effect of light and shadow, depth and space.
The process is meditative and Elizabeth loves the unpredictability of the methods which force her to respond afresh and renew her vision at each stage.
Elizabeth is continuing to create pieces inspired by the woodland and waterside around Windsor Great Park and Windsor Forest in all seasons. She is developing her interest in other landscapes, experimenting with fabrics and techniques to evoke journeys in other places.
If you would like to commission a piece inspired by your favourite landscape, please talk to Elizabeth who is also happy to give public talks about her work and the methods she uses.
